Welcome to Kev Gao’s personal website!
I am a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Scheller College of Business, Georgia Tech, working under the supervision of Prof. Karthik Ramachandran and Prof. Raghupathy Sivakumar. I obtained my Ph.D. in Business from the Rady School, UCSD, advised by Prof. Vish Krishnan. My research focuses on developing new AI-driven solutions to complex business and societal challenges. Methodologically, I design customized, domain-specific AI models and work to make empirical (causal) social science research native to AI and multimodal data (high-dimensional data, text, images, etc.) while maintaining rigor.
I am specifically interested in the following broad questions:
- How can AI systems help measure, evaluate, and facilitate innovation in society?
- How do policies and institutions affect innovation performance and the efficiency of the commercialization ecosystem of science?
- What impact will the mass adoption of AI and AI-enabled products have on innovation and social progress?
I combine expertise in both business/economics and computer science/AI, and I co-author with both business/management scholars and computer scientists. My teaching experience ranges from information systems and operations management core courses, product management and innovation strategy, to big data engineering and AI/NLP.
Personally, I am a computing hardware enthusiast, an amateur chef, (sort of) a railway fan (電車オタク), and a car guy (wannabe).
